Serving our Community
Listed below are some organizations that Lifesong Christian Communities is supporting within our Community to share Christ's love with the Conejo Valley. If you are interested in joining us in any of the service activities or have additional suggestions, please email Pastor Rich (mailto:TheGregorys1@aol.com).
Lutheran Social Services: Each week Lifesong prepares 24 lunches that are distributed to members of our community through the Lutheran Social Services in Thousand Oaks. http://www.lsss.org/
80 E. Hillcrest Drive #213-215
Thousand Oaks 91360, 805 497-6207
Crop Walk: 31 Lifesong members were among the 435 total Crop Walk participants this March who together raised over $42,000 to assist Church World Service in its efforts to alleviate hunger and despair in poverty pockets in the world. Also, 25 percent of the money will assist these five local charities: Conejo Valley Meals on Wheels, Westlake Meals on Wheels, Manna Food Bank, Lutheran Social Services and Catholic Charities. We look forward to growing our participation in this annual event! www.toacorn.com/news/2006/0427/Letters/013.html
ACTION: http://www.actionvc.org/ ACTION is a Christian Outreach Ministry in Ventura County, facilitating service projects and outreach opportunities with churches and other agencies to reach those the most in need.
Many Mansions: http://www.manymansions.org/ Many Mansions provides well-managed, service-enriched, affordable housing to low income residents in our community. Lifesong was blessed to support Many Mansion's Bowls of Hope event this year.
Partnering with a Local School: Lifesong Christian Communities has partnered with a local school to make a difference in our community. Over the past year we have enjoyed serving by providing campus clean-up, support to families in need, volunteers for the book fair, re-building a baseball diamond, and spending time with students.
Catholic Charities: Lifesong is partnering with Catholic Charities by conducting food drives to stock their pantry so that they may provide emergency kits to people in need.
Serving our World
In today's world of high speed Internet and global technology, it is amazingly easy for us to make a big difference in our world by just a click of a mouse, or a small donation to meaningful organizations. Here are a few examples:
Compassion International
Every family at Lifesong is encouraged to sponsor a child through Compassion International or a similar organization. Compassion International exists as a Christian child advocacy ministry that releases children from spiritual, economic, social and physical poverty and enables them to become responsible, fulfilled Christian adults. Today, Compassion helps more than 770,000 children in more than 20 countries. You can sponsor a child today! Your tax-deductible support of just $32 a month connects your child with a loving, church-based program that provides educational opportunities, health care, recreational programs, life skills, and Christian learning.
ONE - the Campaign to Make Poverty History
ONE is a new effort by Americans to rally Americans - ONE by ONE - to fight the emergency of global AIDS and extreme poverty. ONE is students and ministers, punk rockers and NASCAR moms, Americans of all beliefs and every walk of life, united as ONE to help make poverty history. What can you do to get involved with ONE? Start by signing the ONE Declaration and lending your voice to the fight against global AIDS and extreme poverty. Next, tell your friends by sending an e-mail encouraging him/her to get involved at ONE.org.
Hands of Mercy
Hands of Mercy enables churches to activate their members towards missions and "the great commission." They help churches start a "loft house" project in their parking lot and facilitate weekend and short-term, cross-cultural ministry opportunities to the "least of these" in Baja, Mexico. Lifesong has had the priviledge of partnering with another church as we help to build the houses locally and then assemble them in Mexico.
