Home Based Church Groups

We believe that there are many ways to be the church (church isn't something you do or go to - it is a way of living out your faith).  Our particular way of being the church - with a high focus on building relationships through smaller communities called Home Based Church Groups (or Home Churches) - makes it a little easier to grow genuine friendships.  We believe that this is how people explore spirituality and hopefully learn to follow Jesus.

What is a Home Church?

A Home Church is a community of people (usually 8-12) who meet in a home weekly to learn how to follow Jesus through prayer, worship, and open conversation about everyday life.  We believe that God cares deeply about everyday life, so we are exploring how to live more simply so that we might find the same peace that Jesus had, and that he promised His disciples and us!   The Bible has so much practical advice to offer us for living in today's world!  Home Churches provide you with an awesome opportunity to discover how these principles apply to your life while developing relationships with a group of people who care about you.  It's not unusual for members of a Home Church to enjoy hanging out together and it  some how usually revolves around good food or fun outdoor activities.  Additionally, each Home Church will take on service projects within our community, as a reflection of who we are when we live out our faith.

How does the Home Church Model Apply to Families?

Lifesong is committed to fostering an environment where your entire family can grow in their faith.  In the Home Church model, this does not necessarily mean that children will experience Sunday School or Youth Group in the traditional sense each week.  However, your entire family is encouraged to participate in a Home Church together.  In Home Churches with small children, child care will often be provided, but children are encouraged to be involved with worship and as much of the meeting as they would like.  Seeing parents actively involved in church within a home setting sends a powerful message to our children about the importance of living our faith outside of a traditional church building. 

How can I get Involved?

Our prayer is that we will soon become a network of Home Churches throughout the Conejo Valley that all come together on a regular basis to form one community.  We rent the Borchard Community Center in Newbury Park to hold collective worship gatherings (the 2nd and 4th Sunday of each month at 10 AM) where all of our Home Churches come together to learn from each other and worship.  There are a number of ways that you can become involved with Lifesong, visit our monthly calendar and join us for any of the following: 

• 1. Join a Home Church Meeting
• 2. Come to a larger Worship Gathering
• 3. Help with an upcoming community service project
• 4. Hang out at a social event and meet some great people
